LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) – Six horses were killed as firefighters responded to at least four suspicious fires in Lakewood.
Three fires occurred within a block of each other – the fourth was more than a 1.5 miles away, said fire investigators.
The fires erupted early Saturday morning between 3rd and 22nd Avenues along Sheridan Boulevard.
West Metro firefighters say one barn on the 5400 block of West 3rd Avenue caught fire with ten horses inside – six were not able to escape the flames.
Firefighters say two of the incidents were dumpster fires, and a third was a tire fire.
Authorities have not arrested anyone as of late Saturday morning.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries but is expected to be okay. No one else was hurt.
